Dustbin Baby

I LOVE this Jacqueline Wilson book - It has to be up there in my top 5 :-)
April was abandoned in a dustbin at birth,and now on her 14th birthday she skips school to go to the places that have played a big part in her life - and to find her birth mother.I think this book is meaningful and touching book,it also deals with suicide,and other controversial issues so I recommend readers are 13+.

Cookie,is a book,with a friendly,yet quite hard hitting story to tell.
Beauty lives with her Mum,Dilly,and controlling Father, Gerry.Gerry is nasty, manipulative and controlling over their 3 membered family.When Gerry finally goes way too far,Beauty and her mum leave for good,with no plans or money.

The life they will enter is unpredictable and far off their old home and wealthy life style with Gerry,how will they manage?!

Hetty Feather

Is the book before 'Sapphire Battersea' about Hetty Feather, who got left at the Foundling Hospital when she was a baby,adopted until she was 5,then got sent back to the Foundling Hospital when she turned 5 because she was old enough to go back.Its a story of true friendship,emotion and feelings.It will make you laugh,cry,its unpredictable you never know whats on the next page,making you keep turning :-) (see picture of Hetty to the right)
By the way those of you who are wondering why she is called both Hetty and Sapphire,Hetty is the name the Hospital ignorantly christened her and Sapphire is the name her mother named her (which you find out in Sapphire Battersea)

I think this book is truly amazing and extremely powerful.
Recommend reading audience: 10 - 14

Sapphire Battersea

This is Jacqueline's most recently published book and is also the sequel to one of her many best selling books 'Hetty Feather'.It is a book narrated by Hetty Feather (also known as Sapphire Battersea)about her tough life as an orphan at the Victorian Foundling Hospital.
She starts off life as a scrawny, red headed baby,who gets adopted,until she is old enough to go back to the rough,and cruel Foundling Hospital.

Sapphire Battersea,is obviously related/carried on from 'Hetty Feather' although you do not have to have read it to understand 'Sapphire Battersea' for the first few pages you get filled in about Hetty's (Sapphire) life in general and what went on in the first novel.

This book is a fabulous read and makes you want to turn EVERY last page until you have finished! I think the age range for this book, is for around 10-14 year olds any younger and the reader wouldn't fully understand/get the most out of the book.

Overall the book is a great read,and I hope the information that I have given you about the book is enough to make you want to read both books about Hetty (Sapphire).
